Feminism on campus: a new club hopes to bring change to Drury
Campus September 16, 2025, Comments OffDrury has another new club on campus making waves. The Drury Feminist Club began in March of 2025, marking the first time Drury has had a feminist organization since the university was established in 1873. The Drury Feminist Club joins organizations like United Asian Voices in hope of bringing change to the growing university as it welcomes students from across the country and globe. The club stands on its mission statement to “[promote] gender equality for all students at Drury University.”
The Drury Feminist Club meets weekly and welcomes all students to discuss gender inequality on campus and across the community. They seek to address issues such as reproductive rights, the gender pay gap, sexual harassment, and the misrepresentation of woman in media. The club’s launch comes at a very important moment as feminism is a hot topic in public discourse. Feminism intertwines with other matters of contention, and the intersectionality that occurs within feminism makes it a very prevalent topic. The club’s president, Esther Manning, spoke on the importance of having this club on campus.
“I think it’s really important to bring awareness and create a community on campus for people to support each other and break down the social barriers that disadvantaged women and gender queer people have.”
When speaking on what the club hopes to achieve, Manning continued to speak on the importance of bringing awareness to feminism and providing more resources on campus.
“Feminism is for everyone. Feminism is important in society as a whole. We want to provide resources to Drury students, both on campus and [in] the community. Providing voter registration information and women’s reproductive health resources are things we want to provide on campus.”

The Feminist Club hosted their first event on August 26th , the same day as Woman’s Equality Day. This holiday marks the anniversary of the amendment that granted women the right to vote, and the Feminist Club’s event was a celebration of this monumental moment in women’s rights activism. The club offered multiple craft activities and held a trivia game towards the end of the night. These activities emphasized the importance of the 19th Amendment and brought individuals together in a night of celebration.
The Drury Feminist Club, although new, is very hopeful for the upcoming fall semester. “We will continue to hold meetings that discuss very important topics on women’s rights. We also want to continue to hold events on campus that…spread awareness on many issues regarding feminism,” Esther said.
Students interested in joining the club just need to attend a meeting. Meetings for this semester will be held weekly on Tuesdays at 8pm in the Diversity Lounge.
