Underrated places in Springfield: The Moxie Cinema
Community April 4, 2022, Comments OffThere are a lot of great things to do in Springfield, but sometimes places go under the radar. That’s why in this article I wanted to talk about The Moxie Cinema and why people should consider it whenever they want to go out or watch a movie.
In my four years of being in Springfield, I have fallen in love with going to The Moxie. Whether it was watching Parasite (2019), Jojo Rabbit (2019), or The Lighthouse (2019), before the pandemic all of those experiences were amazing. I still feel excited whenever I think of those movies even though it’s been three years since I have seen them. Getting the chance to watch those movies was great as The Moxie shows more arthouse films and international films rather than the mainstream American movies that Regal or AMC choose to show. I was worried at first as I thought it was just pretentious to watch arthouse films and I partially think that is why people avoid going to The Moxie, but once I got into them I got this whole different side of movies that I never thought I would get.
Even after experiencing the pandemic The Moxie still offered a great escape from whatever I was going through at the time and had a great selection of movies that I have since seen on my own multiple times. Some of those movies include Sh**house (2020), Minari (2020), and Nightmare Alley (2021).
The Moxie is not only great for its movie selection but its atmosphere goes into making the place great for relaxing and having a good time. The ticket prices range from $6-9 depending on if you are a student, a member, a senior or an adult. The snack prices are also reasonable and not massively upcharge to cost near the amount of the movie ticket. Also if you are 21 and over you can buy alcohol to enjoy with your movie.
Before the advertisements and the movie starts, a staff member from The Moxie will give you a presentation about the movie and talk to you about what else is happening. This is great as it makes the experience personable and you get to know what other movies you might want to watch.
The seats are also comfortable and spread out so if the theater was full it still will not be uncomfortable like other movie theaters. The Moxie’s homeliness makes the experience of watching movies there great and if you go once I am willing to bet that you are thinking about going again.
Finally, getting to The Moxie from campus is easy whether you prefer to walk to downtown or drive there. It is close to several parking spots and the walking route is relatively safe. The place’s address is 305 S Campbell Ave #101, Springfield, MO 65806.
Booking your ticket for a movie is also easy as you can do it either online through their website or by going to The Moxie. They always have new movies to show or sometimes they run classics at a discounted price, but you get to watch them in a cinema with incredible speakers. With The Moxie there is always something to watch, and if you choose to go there I hope you have an incredible time!
