Drury traditions: What homecoming will look like in 2021
Campus News, Community February 15, 2021, Comments Off 118Although campus events have drastically changed since the spring of last year, Student Union Board–otherwise known as SUB–is ensuring students on campus have a fantastic semester.
On the third week of February, the 15th through 20th, SUB will host its annual homecoming events. Each day has a dress theme and/or activity for students to engage in. The themes for students to participate in are as follows:
– Feb. 15: Pajamas
– Feb. 16: Crazy Socks
– Feb. 17: Class Color
Freshman: Red
Sophomores: Blue
Juniors: Green
Seniors: Purple
– Feb. 18: Ugly Neck Tie
– Feb. 19: Tie Dye
– Feb. 20: Drury Pride
President of SUB and Criminology and Psychology major Izzy Jaynes spoke about the festivities. “That week, there will be spirit days all week and people can even post pictures of their spirit day outfits on social media tagging SUB to be entered into a raffle. There will be an off-campus event that Friday at Incredible Pizza and then a game day celebration event on campus that Saturday where the games will be live-streamed, the first 100 people will get free Drury shirts to tie-dye, there will be game day snacks and the giveaways will be handed out!”
Jaynes also admits that she is most excited about the events planned for Saturday, Feb. 20, which is the official Homecoming game day celebration in the FSC Ballroom. Corbin Tarr, Vice President of Drury Traditions in SUB and Philosophy and Religious studies major, is ecstatic for a different event. Tarr is looking forward to the event on Friday, Feb. 19 at Incredible Pizza. This event was successful last year, which is why it was brought back, this time with COVID-19 regulations for a fun, but safe, night off-campus.
Tarr and SUB have been ensuring the safety of their events regarding COVID in a variety of ways. “This is by no means an exhaustive list. SUB is taking every protocol that Drury enforces and going a step above for these events. Incredible Pizza will have socially distanced seating, masks, hand sanitizer, routine sanitization of tables and games, temperature checking, bracketed time slots and more. The game day event is on campus, so it will have all the same rules as the Incredible Pizza. As per usual, SUB will be enforcing this at events to help make sure we can all have as fun of a time as possible while still being safe!”
With all the time, effort and safety precautions those in SUB have worked to incorporate into this 2021 Drury University Homecoming, Tarr and Jaynes encourage students to follow SUB’s social media pages: Instagram and Twitter at @subatdrury and Facebook at Drury Student Union Board. These pages will be posting updates and information throughout the week to encourage student participation in these fantastic and wonderful events for those at Drury University.
