Drury Theatre presents ‘Arlington’: Come explore a dystopian love story
Campus News, Weekend October 4, 2019, Comments Off 71Drury students and Springfield residents are invited to come out and experience the final showing of Drury Theatre’s very own ‘Arlington’ on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Sunderland Studio Theatre.
Freshman and actor, Mathew Colling, is encouraging all to come and learn more about the creative world of Arlington; a performance unlike any other.
Something new to see
“Arlington is a dystopian play, but not in the sense any of us are used to. Rather than utter chaos and a hero rising to smite the evil, there is a new order. Most of the population is kept completely isolated, while the others are forced to maintain this order in silence,” said Colling.
Colling is excited to take part in his first-ever performance at Drury University and is eager for the audience to see the true dedication, time and energy put into this production.
“This show has been a journey and a learning curve, and I am excited to show the world the amazing work the team has put together,” stated Colling.
He continued, “This show is by no means traditional. Our director, Haddy Kreie, compiled an amazing cast and crew that has tremendous synergy and grit. You will not be disappointed by this once in a lifetime dual-cast performance of Arlington,” said Colling.
An emotional piece
Anyone and everyone is invited to attend this showing of Arlington. The Drury and Springfield communities are welcome to watch this one of a kind play and observe the immensely talented student actors and actresses bring a compelling story to life.
“Arlington is inquisitive, funny, heart-wrenching, and, in the end, beautiful. It is a love story, but not in the traditional sense. It is sacrifice, it is pain, it is raw emotion. For many of us working on the show, it is a way to cope with the stresses of college life. We want to share this experience with as many people as we possibly can,” stated Colling. “I want them to leave with the thinking about the characters and their struggles, about this new society, and what could have caused all of this. Most of all, I want them to feel what the characters feel, both the fear and the hope.”
Tickets for the play range from $3 to $14 and are currently on sale online at drurytheatre.universitytickets.com. To learn more about the Drury University Theatre Department and their future productions, feel free to check out their Facebook page.
