You do not have to wait until summer to take a dive. On March 2 at the Ski Shack, 5539 S. Campbell in Springfield, Mo., you can take part in the 2019 Springfield Polar Plunge for charity.

Robin Anderson, development director and planner for the Springfield Polar Plunge, is looking forward to the chilling event all about raising money for charity.

“The Polar Plunge is a project of the Law Enforcement Torch Run(R) for Special Olympics Missouri. Various police departments, highway patrols, correctional centers and other law enforcement agencies around the state are proud to host this event,” said Anderson.

Everyone is welcome to come watch! Participants must be at least 10-years-old, and every individual, in a team or by themselves, must raise a minimum of $75 each by event day.

“This ‘unbearable’ event is a unique opportunity to show your bravery as you support local Special Olympics athletes by walking, running or crawling into the frigid winter waters that Missouri has to offer,” said Anderson.

The best part about this event is that you get to bond with the community and share in this wild experience that is all going towards a good cause.

“All money raised stays in the Southwest Area. The proceeds benefit Special Olympics Missouri’s year-round program of sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. SOMO exists to provide year-round sports and training opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities and our athletes need you to get involved,” said Anderson

Of course, everyone will enjoy watching or jumping into the icy water, but there will also be additional activities and fun prizes that people in attendance can win.

“Attendees can enjoy viewing the variety of costumes that people dress up in. Participants are battling for the Golden Plunger Award for the best dressed costume. There will also be games for the kids. It is an extremely crazy and fun event unlike any other. This charity event is for everyone,” said Anderson
