Drury Currents 2024 : (Anti)thesis
Campus October 10, 2024, Comments OffCalling all Drury students! Submissions for Drury’s 2024-2025 Currents Issue are now open. The Currents staff is calling for small-sized works from students. This can include micro-fiction, poetry, or any other type of prose under 750 words. The submission is also open to visual media such as drawings/sketches, photography, digital art, or paintings.
This year’s title is “(Anti)thesis.” The theme is focused on the duality and reimagining of the lived human experience. Some examples of this duality include Utopian/Dystopian, Evolution/Extinction, Life/Death, Hope/Fear, Optimism/Pessimism and Innovation/Regression.

Students are encouraged to submit anything they consider to be their best work, regardless of if they think it fits the theme.
“(Anti)thesis” will take inspiration from the aesthetic of retrofuturism, combining the past with contemporary ideas. The aesthetic takes ideas from the 1950s when media like The Jetsons took the traditional parts of the era and combined them with futuristic technology.
The 1950s were also a time of social rebellion and change. Music, fashion, art, culture and willingness to stand up to long-held beliefs. The theme of duality is intended to challenge what we think we know of ourselves and the world around us.
The Currents staff will not be accepting any work generated by AI, including both written and visual material.
All work must be sent in by Oct. 31, 2024 and be submitted to currents@drury.edu.
