On Sept. 28, 2024, Drury University hosted its annual Family Day. On this day, families of current Drury students are able to come, see their kids and have a full day of festivities on the campus square.

Drury organizations volunteer, and they have an activities for families to participate in and have something to take home with them. Drury’s Student Government Association (SGA) had a table for succulents and the option for people to decorate their own pots.

Other activities included origami making, face painting, making friendship bracelets and a talented woman constructing balloon animals. While there were activities for Drury families, there were also many empty tables for more organizations to volunteer.

The Kellogg Green Field had an inflatable where families could kick a ball around and try to make it in each other’s goal, similar to soccer.

A popular activity, however, were the bubble balls. Participants put the ball around them and are able to run into each other like bumper cars. It’s a safe and fun game for everyone.

The most popular attraction between students and their families is the Singo event held in the Finley Student Center (FSC) commons. Hosted by the Student Union Board (SUB), people are able to win prizes by winning in Bingo. SUB does the traditional game of Bingo, but they also make the game increasingly harder.

Dorah Sturhann, a second year and a member of SUB, said it was another successful Singo year for Drury. She observed that there were a lot more tables empty, compared to last year, but it still went great and all the prizes were given away.

Overall, it was another successful year. Compared to previous years, it was a much smaller event, but there were no complaints from the families or students. Students still had a great time spending time with their families.
