Halloweentown is a 1998 film that is classified in the American fantasy genre. This movie was directed by Duwayne Dunham who is an accredited film director. Halloweentown is the first movie installment in a 4-part series. The movie was created and targeted for children however, it became a big hit for the older generation. As time goes on the movie becomes a nostalgic movie for all and many rewatch it yearly around Halloween.

The movie follows the protagonist Marnie Piper who is only 13 years old when she discovers some life-altering news. It is Halloween night and Marnie wants nothing more than to go out for Halloween with her friends. However, her mother Gwen will not let this happen. Gwen has never let her children celebrate Halloween.

Her mother does everything she can to divert Marnie’s attention to something other than Halloween, and the fact she is a witch. Unfortunately for her mother, this all fails when Marnie’s grandmother Aggie arrives from her home Halloweentown. Aggie comes showering the children with candy, costumes, and a big secret to tell Marnie. Aggie tries to hint numerous times to Marnie that she is a witch, but Gwen’s disapproving glances deter her from revealing the truth. That is until Marnie overhears Gwen and Aggie arguing about how Gwen should feel lucky, she has two children showing powers and they should start Marnie’s training. Marnie then discovers that she is part of a long lineage of witches.

Marnie later decides to follow Aggie back to Halloweentown with Her brother Dylan and her little sister Sophie. They find a village full of monsters, goblins, witches, and a bunch of other creatures. They eventually find Aggie and the four work together with the help of some Halloweentown citizens to uncover a mystery. This journey leads them to a terrifying warlock who plans to destroy not only Halloweentown but the Mortal world as well.
