The Cider Days Festival welcomes autumn to Springfield
Community, Feature October 8, 2025, Comments OffIn the heart of Springfield, Missouri, on historic Walnut Street, a treasured tradition takes place every year near the end of September.
As the last pieces of summer slip away, Cider Days emerges with the sweet taste of fall. The smell of fresh cider and tart lemonade in big plastic cups fills the air, accompanied by local music and laughter. Freshly fallen leaves scatter the closed street for two full days of fun, connection, and many memories.
The festival has been around for 27 years, dating all the way back to the 1990’s. While it is a great time for everyone, it also supports many small businesses and local artists, evident though the many craft booths set up on either side of the street.
The Mirror visited Cider Days and spoke with attendees on their thoughts and favorite parts of the beloved festival. For some people, like Trina Harring, Cider Days isn’t new. “So far, so good,” she said. “I’ve come for like, the past three years, so it’s just as fun as it’s always been!”

Cider Days offers something for all ages, from face painting to live music and even a beer garden. It mixes tradition with modern flair, drawing in many different people. For others, it’s their first experience. Newcomer Ali Freeman was excited to be there. “I really like it. It’s my favorite thing to do, and people watch at the same time, so it’s a lot of fun.”
While the crafts and music are exciting, Freeman is most looking forward to a different form of art. “I’m really excited for this face paint, honestly,” she said, laughing.
Angela Simpson has a different story. She graduated college in 2021, and she said the festival used to be a part of her life prior to graduating. Simpson traveled all the way from St. Louis to attend this year with her friend.
“I had to come down because it was fun, looking at all the little shops,” she said. When asked what she thought of everything so far, she added, “It’s cool, I like it. I’ve spent a lot of money.”
As Cider Days is only a few more years away from its third decade, it continues to be a staple for Springfield, one that draws in locals and visitors with its tradition and charm. Whether it’s a steaming cup of apple cider, handmade art, or simply walking Walnut Street on a nice autumn afternoon, the festival has something that keeps everyone coming back year after year. It’s not just an event—it’s an experience that marks the change in season and brings the town together. As the air gets cooler and the trees begin to change color, Cider Days remains a celebration full of joy, special moments, and excitement.
