FCA’s revival on the Drury campus
Campus News October 8, 2025, Comments OffAs the 2025-26 school year begins for Drury Students, so does the rebirth of the Fellowship of Christan Athletes organization on the Drury Campus.
Students are welcomed to “food, fun, and fellowship,” Cody Pentecost shared. As the Colligate Ministry Director of FCA in Springfield, Pentecost works with the surrounding universities in the Springfield area to help “allow for student athletes to have a platform where they can share what is important to them,” as well as, an opportunity for students to be “challenged and encouraged in their faith journey.”
The organization took a hit during the Pandemic, leaving a large portion of the student leaders in the club to graduate. This damaged the momentum and growth of the club.
Drury University Chaplin and Professor of Religious Studies, Dr. Charles Neff, went on to share, “there are over 700 student athletes and over 80 coaches on campus. FCA just makes a lot of sense for spiritual life on campus. It’s a great time to bring it back.”
Being his first year as University Chaplin at Drury, Dr. Neff set out with a goal to revive larger student ministries on campus and help guide students on their faith journeys. “As momentum grows, it has a spilling over effect on campus. The potential for FCA is even larger than FCA,” states Dr. Neff.
The group already had their first informational meeting on September 4th, with a goal to recruit student leaders from the different official and intermural sports on campus.
When reflecting on the impact of student leaders in previous years of FCA, Cody Pentecost went on to say, “being able to have student leaders from different teams allowed for us to have a really present community.”
FCA encourages students to take charge and lead others. “Those student leaders are everything. To be able to have the influence you do as a college athlete is immeasurable,” stated Pentecost.
Meetings for the organization will consist of huddle groups for individual sports teams. These meetings will also provide a space for Bible studies, worship, and over all fellowship with a community of students “who know exactly what you are going through.” FCA is in the process of planning an official kickoff event to build excitement and awareness of the organization on campus. More information is to come.
Students who are interested in joining or becoming student leaders for FCA can find more general information or meeting times on the Drury FCA Instagram, @druryfca. Students can also contact Dr. Neff personally through email for more questions at cneff004@drury.edu.
