Trump’s First 100 Days in Office
Opinion, Politics May 1, 2025, 0 Comment 10OPINION: President Donald Trump officially began his second term on January 20, 2025, which means that April 29 marks his 100th day of his second term. In only 100 days in office, Trump has proven that conservative leadership has the ability to be pro-American, decisive, and effective, setting the tone for a change that America needs.
Under President Biden, illegal border crossings were extremely high, causing national security risks such as the trafficking of drugs. According to an article by the National Immigration Forum, seizures of fentanyl were 480 percent higher in 2023, under the leadership of President Biden.
The fentanyl crisis is a major issue in America. According to an article by the DEA, over 107,000 people died due to drug overdoes in 2023, and roughly 70 percent of those deaths were related to fentanyl. However, President Trump is working to strengthen our border. The official White House website reports that under Trump, “illegal border encounters are down by 95 percent”.
In addition, according to the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump negotiated with Mexico, and in turn they came down hard on drug traffickers in their country, arresting over 6,000 in March alone. This action puts Americans first, saving lives and creating a safer country for generations to come.
On April 2, 2025, Trump began to enforce tariffs. These include a 25 percent tariff on imports from both Canada and Mexico, and 10 percent on imports from China. Many argue that these tariffs could damage the economy, but the Trump administration claims that the tariffs and Trump’s new trade policies could actually abolish the federal income tax, according to an article by Newsweek.
But how would this work? In an interview with Fox Noticas conducted in early April, Trump said, “There is a chance that the money from the tariffs could be so great that it would replace (the income tax).”
Abolishing the federal income tax would reduce unnecessary intrusion from the government and would allow American citizens to manage their income on their own, without the strict oversight of the government. By imposing these tariffs, Trump is showing his ability to be swift and decisive with his actions and thinking of American workers above all.
Overall, Donald Trump hit the ground running in his second term. As mentioned above, he’s strengthening the border and imposing tariffs, both of which are actions made with the American people at the forefront of both his and his administration’s mind. His first 100 days of his second term in office has already sent a clear message: the era of indecisive and weak policies is over.
It is time for a change, a president that will fight for the American people and protect them above all else.
