Drury University offers many opportunities for students including getting involved with the many different organizations that are offered on campus. As Drury continues to grow, more organizations are being formed to accommodate the flow of students coming from all over the country and the world.

This year Drury welcomes a new organization, the United Asian Voices (UAV). The President of UAV, Lizzie Murray, and the executive officers spent the fall semester planning and establishing their organization. The organization meets bi-weekly to give a safe place for the Asian community on campus to talk about their own personal experiences and discuss recent news relating to them.

“My main goals are just to provide a space where people of Asian descent and people interested in the culture can come and talk about things that they’ve experienced and provide a community,” comments Murray.

She shares her own experiences about the ways Drury has given her the opportunity to learn more about her culture from other students who come from a different background than her. Sharing those stories has only opened the door and enriched Murray’s understanding of herself and her heritage.

“I grew up in a very rural part of Missouri. I didn’t have much of an Asian community in that area, so it was really cool coming here. It’s still a pretty small community, but it’s definitely something that I have become a lot more interested in since being here at Drury,” says Murray.

Now in the spring semester, UAV has been planning for their first events as an official, recognized organization. On April 10, 2025, UAV will be hosting a ramen cook-off in the Findley Student Center (FSC) Ballroom at 4:30 p.m.

Students can enter their ramen into the competition for the chance to win a basket of up to $50 of prizes or come by and judge what they think is the best tasting ramen. It is a great chance to support this new organization as they make themselves known to anyone on camps who is interested in learning more about Asian culture.
