Trumps first week of executive orders
Politics February 6, 2025, 0 Comment 15President trump has been in office for his second term and has enacted several executive orders that will have direct impacts on different people within the country.
Immigration
One of the very first things the current president did after his inauguration was declare a state of emergency at the southern border. This allows the secretary of defense to deploy some members of the armed forces as well as the national guard at the border. This order also seeks to finish constructing the wall that was started back in the current presidents first term.
In direct relation to this order and his immigration policy, Trump has started making strides to end birth right citizenship in the United States. This means children born to people who are not U.S. citizens in the U.S. would no longer be considered citizens. This has been met with backlash due to it being the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion
Trump repealed many policies and positions relating to Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI), giving only 60 days for executive branches and agencies to phase these out. In his inauguration speech, the president declared that there are only two genders and has made efforts to have this enforced in the government.
It is now required that only the gender identities “male” and “female” are recognized by the government. You may now only have your sex assigned at birth marked on official documents.
Protections have been removed for the discrimination of people of different races and sexualities and gender identities. This is including the Title IX federal law enacted under the Education Amendments in 1972 to protect discrimination based on gender.
Climate Crisis
The current president also pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement, which means no more funding for this will be allocated. The Paris Climate agreement is a treaty among 195 countries, who have all agreed to make strides together to stop global warming by trying to keep the temperature below two degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. The United States committed to this agreement in 2016.
Trump has signed many orders relating to energy production, specifically declaring a national energy emergency. He has gotten rid of policy that the former President Joe Biden had in place about the development of electric vehicles and climate change. Trump also eliminated other regulations and limits that were put on fossil fuel drilling/extraction on federal land.
