An overview of a great season for Drury women’s soccer
Campus News, Community December 6, 2021, Comments Off 66The 2021 Drury Women’s Soccer season has wrapped up and what a season it was. The Panthers finished with a record of 16-5-1 and won the GLVC Conference Tournament.
The Panthers also won their Midwest Regional Quarterfinal game in double overtime with a heroic late goal from Chloe Cash. Ultimately, they would fall just short in the Midwest Regional Semifinal game against Saginaw Valley State in overtime. However, there is certainly a lot to be proud of this year.
Senior Brinn Cooper reflected on the season and the team’s accomplishments, “Honestly, winning the conference is something that I knew we were always capable of doing, but I never thought it would actually happen”.
Cooper credited the team’s capability to overcome adversity to the lead factor in their success.
Cooper stated that “It means, even more, knowing how much adversity we have gone through as a team – whether that be coaching changes or injuries throughout the years”.
Cooper knew that something special was brewing from the very beginning of the season, “I think when we won so many games in a row at the beginning of the season, we knew that we were dangerous”.
Cooper summarized the year and her career at Drury: “This year was easily my favorite year of college soccer. I’m really proud of my entire team for showing up from day one to put in the work and effort to get us to where we ended up. I think we knew it was going to be a good year when nearly every single person on my 35 person team showed up on the first day of practice and blew the fitness test out of the park. To go on and finish the season at the National tournament is exactly where everyone wanted to be at the end of the year. I couldn’t have asked for a better season to end my soccer career”.
