First for this edition of Panther Profiles, is Chloe Ray, a Biochemistry major with a psychology minor and the newly elected President of the Panhellenic community. These are the questions Ray answered following the election announcement:
Why did you decide to join Greek life?
Coming into college I knew I wanted to join clubs and groups. I wanted to be a part of something that I could grow in. I wanted to find a way to help the community that I am a part of. When I learned about Greek life and how different it was from other Greek organizations I decided to join. I am so glad that I made this decision. I have made so many great connections and friendships. Greek life truly has made a huge impact on my college career.
Why did you decide to run for Panhellenic council?
As a freshman, I was the Panhellenic delegate for my sorority and I got a glimpse at the world of Panhellenic. It was fascinating to me getting to meet women from all different sororities and backgrounds. I genuinely fell in love with the big community you get to be a part of. I then decided to run for Vice President of Administration last year. Working with the council last year was such a great learning experience. I have learned skills I did not even know I would need. I had the opportunity to make Greek life the best it can be. I wanted to continue this year so I ran for president! I cannot wait to see all of the things this council can accomplish. I know we are destined for great things!
Do you have an goals for the community you hope to accomplish during your term?
If I had all of the time in the world there is a lot of things I would do! Some of my goals include working on morals in our chapters. Coming back from a pandemic is hard, I want our community to know that we understand that is hard and that we are here to support you! I would like to work with sports teams and make Greek life more available to them, whatever this might look like. I would like to meet with chapters regularly, genuinely check in with them, and see what we can do to support them. Communication, in general, is something I really push and so I want there to be an open line of communication with DFC, Administration, Alum, and those in our community!
The newest President of Drury’s Fraternal Council is Connor Lazell, a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Lazell is majoring in Architecture while also achieving a minor in Business Administration. Like Ray, Lazell is ecstatic for this achievement and accomplishment of being elected as DFC’s newest President for the next calendar year.
Why did you decide to join Greek life?
I decided to join Greek life to get out there in the community and surround myself with men I can depend on now and as I grow older.
Why did you decide to run for Drury Fratneral council?
I decided to run for DFC president to help show off and hopefully grow this community I care for.
Do you have any goals for the community you hope to accomplish during your term?
I want to help grow Greek life and to better its image on campus because it is different than your typical state school.
Finally, both Ray and Lazell were asked if there was anything they would like to add to complete their statements. Lazell expressed his interest for DFC, all fraternities, and the Greek community to have a great year! Ray wanted to state she is open to any ideas or questions anyone would like to share. Her email is cray010@drury.edu. Both of these individuals, those elected on council and ones who interviewed should be proud of their accomplishments to the Greek community!
