Drury cross country team says goodbye to a great season
Campus News, Community November 22, 2021, Comments Off 70Both Drury Cross Country teams are looking to wrap up the season after a great showing on the year. The women’s team has finished top five in all but one of their meets including two second-place finishes. The men’s team has three top-five finishes including a tournament win at the Cow Bell Classic.
Katie McCune, a member of the team, had this to say about this year’s performance,“The season overall was great and there was a lot we had to overcome as a team.”
There were some obstacles that came up this year for the Panthers. However, McCune is proud of how they overcame many of these trials.
She remarked, “We did not have a head coach for most of the season so the team had to rely on each other and stay motivated.”
McCune was extremely proud of her teammates and reflected on the great season they all turned in. She exclaimed how, “We had a strong finish to the end of the season and had 3 all-conference finishes for the girls and 2 for the guys.”
When asked what she thought made the team so strong, McCune believed that, “The strengths of the team are how close we are. We all work really hard and are very committed to building a positive team culture and family-like atmosphere.”
Both Drury Cross Country teams are strong threats in the GLVC. McCune loves the program and loves the family like atmosphere that is present.
She explained how, “We want to build a program that is successful every year on both the cross country and track side. We strive for a family like culture.”
Overall, McCune is, “proud of the team for overcoming so much this year and not giving up when things were uncertain or got hard.”
