A Drury student’s review of Paranormal Cirque
Community November 8, 2021, Comments Off 2198I happened on this event by accident, really. But I am glad I did because it was a great 2 hours of my life. Especially since I could enjoy it with a friend of mine. In this article I will be going over the acts of their show and some of my opinions on them. Their run in town was for a short time, so if you did not get to see them you will have to wait a year and see if they come back.
Paranormal Cirque is a traveling circus. They appear in many towns and Springfield, Missouri is one of their many stops.
The drive over to the Battlefield Mall was one filled with excitement and anticipation. I had bought the tickets online 2 weeks in advance, so we have been waiting for this patiently. You could see the Paranormal Cirque peaking over from the other side of the mall. We then found our way in and the atmosphere was amazing.
They had their performers scattered around to frighten us as we walked in. I was actually quite scared because you are warned that the performers are allowed to touch you, and one grabbed my ankle as I was walking and that scared me. I do not do well with horror but I love to torture myself with it anyway.
We sat in our seats which were in front of the stage, which were closer to the stage than we thought. We know the show was starting when the lights went red and a man with a revving chainsaw came up to rile up the crowd.
Next we meet a recurring wizard-like character which can be assumed to be the master of the show, the one pulling the strings and controlling everything. He sort of just walks around smacking his stick around to make loud sudden noises, which can scare people like myself.
Now, there is a reason why this was an 18+ show. Those under 17 are allowed, but under the discretion that there is adult language and harsh material. I now know why, and do not know why parents allowed their children to watch the show. This is not your normal circus.
Our next act were male zombie acrobats. Needless to say half-naked swinging men on bars did capture my attention. But they were so in time with one another and if one was even a second out of time while they were simultaneously swinging, someone would have gotten hurt.
There were many other acts like a contortionist, a girl swinging around by her hair, a male nun harassing the audience filming an inappropriate movie, a girl that looked like Samara from The Ring shooting a bow from her feet, a man doing aerial silk tricks, an illusion magic show of making people appear and disappear and finally a man in a spinning metal contraption where he would walk around and it would spin. You might have to look that up if you do not know what I am talking about.
All these acts combined were fantastic to watch, but hard to relay in words. It was a spooky time to spend with a friend and we enjoyed it a lot. If you are interested in something with more adult humor and enjoy the circus, this show might be something you look out for in the future.
