After the long-awaited hiatus, season three of the Netflix original show, ‘You’ was back. Starring Penn Badgley who portrays Joe Goldberg, once showcased as an average Joe, has now shown his true colors as a stalker and serial killer.

In season two, his affection was entirely devoted to Love Quinn, played by Victoria Pedretti, a chef in Los Angeles. However, after the season two finale, it is revealed that Love is not only pregnant with Joe’s child, she is also a serial killer. The twist was extremely unexpected and shocked viewers throughout the world.

Although many expected this to then become a Bonnie and Clyde take on the show, Joe was determined to turn over a new leaf and could never love Love because of how unstable and horrible she was. Viewers, such as myself, chuckled because the pot was simply calling the kettle black. Joe spent the end of season two in narration saying he only killed bad people, and only if he had to. And that his only reason for staying with Love was to protect his child from the horrors of their mother.

However, one episode into season three Joe is back to his old ways. Stalking and fantasizing about his new suburban neighbor, Natalie. With constant twists and turns this new season, I had a multitude of thoughts regarding the less than dynamic and murderous duo of Joe and Love. First off, the storyline of trying to provide their son, Henry, with a normal life and then failing miserably was extremely morbid but interesting to watch. Both characters had a constant and loving devotion to their son but were horrible at everything else.

This show’s relationship with Joe is still one which is an odd phenomenon that intrigues me. Although it’s been shown multiple times of his stalking and murdering tendencies, audiences adore and feel extremely sympathetic for Joe Goldberg… a murderer. Now, don’t get me wrong. I know this was partly the goal of the show was to show that predators could be anyone, but the fact that Joe is so loved by members of society knowing that he is a terrible person is very unsettling.

Graphic: The two major complainants I had about this season, was considering every episode seemed to have one, if not more sex scenes. Almost an overbearing amount. And the second complaint (containing major spoilers) is that the audience had to witness a sexual relationship between a thirty year old woman and a nineteen year old college student. It was certainly uncomfortable to watch. Although, in some manner the entire show could be categorized in that way.

Overall, ‘You’ season three ranks extremely high for me. I believe it was better than season two, but not as fantastic as the original season. With amazing acting from everyone, an intriguing plotline and masterful cinematography, I highly recommend watching all three seasons of ‘You’.
