Campus News, Community October 8, 2021, Comments Off 70Amongst the ever-changing aspects within the Drury community, the Student Government Association (SGA) has completed another project for campus. The Vice President of Institutional Affairs, Emilee Harless, has taken the lead on this exciting project for students. Harless is a junior with majors in Political science, English and Writing with minors in Law and Society and Middle East Studies.
Harless described the inspiration behind this project stating, “The purpose of this project is to get a mural painted on Drury’s campus that reflects the authenticity of Drury. Some of the intentions behind the mural are to beautify the campus, reflect the ‘Drury difference’, and to support local artists. The muralist, Christine Riutzel, has a very unique and fun style which I think perfectly expresses the Drury experience.”
The mural was completed on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, and is located on the maintenance box behind the Wallace dorm residence, along Calhoun street. Harless also informed The Mirror this project is one she began her sophomore year, “when I was inspired by the murals I saw while living in downtown Springfield. I wanted to see more artwork on campus and so this project began.”
Harless also wants to inform her peers that if you are anyone you know is interested in doing projects similar to this, that enhance the Drury experience to consider joining SGA. The mural is also fully completed for students to go admire outside of Wallace.
