The Breech School of Business on Drury University’s campus is prepping for Halloween! On Wednesday the 28th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the FSC Ballroom on campus, the organization known as The Breech Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Halloween event, otherwise known as ‘Business Horror Stories’. Sophomore economics major, Matthew Dalton, who is one of the leaders and organizers of this event summarizes, “The Breech Horror Stories event is a learning and networking opportunity for students of any discipline. Local business leaders and industry professionals are coming to Drury to share their personal career horror stories and legendary industry nightmares just in time for Halloween.”

Based on Dalton’s explanation, it is clear that this particular event may be hosted by the Drury Breech program but is for students of all majors to attend. Dalton even hinted at some of the speakers who would be in attendance, “We plan to have architect Chris Swan, Director of Accounting at Expedia Partner Solutions Mike Gunnels, Operations Manager at Southern Missouri Containers, Inc. Matthew Massey, HR Manager at Southern Missouri Containers Donna Roberts, General Council at Burrell Center Josh Bade, and Admirative Director at Cox Medical Group Brock Shamel.” However, these speakers listed are not the only ones planning to attend and relay their career horror stories. Each of the speakers has varying life and business experiences to share with students of all majors. Dalton also spoke on these varying local leaders stating, “This event is for everyone. The whimsical, fun and suspenseful stories are sure to entertain students of all kinds. We also have recruited speakers of diverse fields whose careers cover aspects of any major on campus. The networking opportunity will help students make connections for their future careers.”

Alongside Dalton, senior finance major, Brianna Russell is also heavily involved in the planning of this particular event. She states, “There will be speakers from a variety of fields who will share their humorous “horror” stories from their careers. After the speakers have told their stories, there will be an opportunity to network with them.” Not only will attendants have the opportunity to listen to local business leaders, but they will also have the chance to interact and communicate with the speaker’s Dalton listed along with multiple others.

Dalton, Russell, and the Breech administration are working diligently on this Halloween event for students, the facility and staff. They are also focusing on the safety and precautionary measures to follow the regulations of the COVID-19 policy implemented by Drury University. Russell answered when asked about the health regulations, “We are following the safety plan required by Drury. This includes having a sign-in table where temperatures are taken. Masks are required at the event, as well as 6-feet social distancing. The organizers of the events are working with Granvill Adkins to make sure that it follows all the COVID-19 procedures.” Along with this statement, Dalton also added that each booth will be sanitized every 30 minutes within the networking portion of the event.

Not only is this event taking place the night of the 28th, but Russell also informed of another Breech School of Business event taking place on Thursday the 29th. “This is also a celebration of the groundbreaking of the Enterprise Center on October 29th.” Dalton, Russell, the Breech Chamber of Commerce, and Breech School of Business have been extremely dedicated to the student body, creating experiences they believe will be enjoyable and prevalent to the entire Drury campus. This Halloween Breech event will certainly be one to remember, and certainly one to consider attending. For even if you are not a part of the Breech School of Business at Drury University, there are many benefits for varying students and majors upon campus. Therefore, if you are available at 5 P.M. on October 28th, be certain to stop by the FSC Ballroom, to experience the wonderful first Breech Halloween event of the 2020-2021 academic year.
