Fall Festivities for October
Community, Lifestyle October 19, 2020, Comments Off 126Campbell’s Maze Daze
This festive place is open until Halloween! With the option of a corn maze during the day, to a haunted corn maze at night, there are multiple items to fulfill your fall bucket lists. There are also hayrides, a pumpkin patch, karaoke, and treats such as candy apples and hot chocolate to keep you warm. Campbell’s is truly a delight for all ages. In fact, one of Drury University’s sororities, Kappa Delta, is going to Campbell’s on October 24th as a fall fun bonding activity. Anna Toler, the organizer of this event, states, “Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel our spring formal so I really wanted to do something special… I’m a sucker for anything Halloween related in general and at Campbell’s, it is a good deal for one ticket.” So if you’re wanting an activity both spooky and fall-ish for your Halloween season, look no further than Campbell’s Maze Daze!
Crafting
Although it may not be as spooky as a haunted corn maze, this activity could be perfect for an easy night in! Currently at Michael’s, within Springfield and the majority of locations in the area, there are multiple Halloween crafts for people of all ages. My personal favorite to recommend, are the ‘Plaster Sugar Skulls’ to paint as decoration for this festive time. Prices on crafts range anywhere from $5 to $15. Having these colorful and home-made crafted decorations is sure to help lift your spooky spirits this season.
Andy’s Seasonal Flavor
Everyone in Springfield has certainly heard of Andy’s Frozen Custard, however, you may not have heard of the limited-time seasonal flavors this fall. One particular flavor at all Springfield locations is the ‘Pumpkin Pie Concrete’. Freshman Abby Hallberg, who recently tried this particular concrete states, “It tasted gourmet. And, it was probably the best thing I ever got from Andy’s.” Hallberg also gave it an 11 out of 10 recommendation. With this high of a recommendation from students and the general public, the seasonal flavor at Andy’s Frozen Custard is a must-have!
Pumpkin Fest 2020
Drury University’s Student Union Board, otherwise known as SUB, is hosting a Pumpkin Fest week-long celebration, from the 19th to the 24th. Two of the activities are Campbell’s Maze Daze and Andy’s to try their seasonal pumpkin flavor! SUB has been working extremely hard on these fall festivities for students during this difficult time. All COVID-19 regulations will be followed throughout each event. The events on each day are as follows:
– Monday the 19th: T-Shirt Giveaway at 7 PM, outside on Drury Lane circle.
– Wednesday the 21st: Free’s Andy’s Night! 7 PM first come first serve.
– Thursday the 22nd: Milsap Farms for pizza and live music. Starts at 5 PM.
– Friday the 23rd: Campbell’s Maze Daze from 6 PM to 9 PM. The first 70 people get in free.
– Saturday the 24th: Movie night and giveaway starting at 7 PM.
Decorate
Although this is a simple activity, it is still a classic for the Halloween season. There is a multitude of decorations at stores such as Dollar Tree, Walmart, Target, etc. A possible festive activity is going with roommates and friends (whilst being socially distant and wearing a mask) to buy spooky Halloween decorations or calming Fall decorations for your home this season.
Movie Night
What’s Halloween without a couple of scary/festive movies? Speaking as a person who prefers Disney movies over thrillers, October is the only month I will willingly watch and enjoy these movies. Wrapping up with a warm blanket whilst watching one of these movies is a night well spent. Listed below are varying movie suggestions for this season:
– Scream
– Hush
– Annabelle
– The Conjuring
– Rocky Horror Picture Show
– The Purge
Halloween/Fall Treats
A possible combination with an at home movie night, is making a particular seasonal treat this fall, whether it’s going out and buying candy corn and other Halloween-themed candy or making a delicious snack at home. Some recommendations for the category of creating snacks at home could include sugar cookies, any kind of flavor pie, caramel apples, homemade Chex mix (including candy corn), and s’mores (microwave s’ mores aren’t the same as a bonfire, but they still work)! Any of these treats could be made whilst watching scary movies, doing crafts, or just for a treat.
Harvest Festival
If you are willing to take a day trip to Branson for a fun-filled fall activity, you can attend Harvest Festival at Silver Dollar City. This festival incorporates crafts, pumpkin decoration galore, and thrilling rides for all ages. The festival is continuing until Saturday the 31st. All of the decorations, costume characters, and light-up pumpkins encourage the festive mood! There are also plenty of fall treats and snacks that are in season at Silver Dollar City. Although this event is a bit further outside of Springfield, Harvest Festival is still a fantastic event for this October.
