Food DUdes: Sweet ‘n’ Snow review

Springfield has a bumping local food scene; it seems that a new off-the-beaten-path restaurant or dessert spot pops up every other week. They also cater to a wide variety of appetites. Sweet ‘n Snow is one such place that aims to satisfy the sugar fiends.

Sweet ‘n Snow is located at 2040 S Glenstone Ave. It serves Thai-style shaved ice, as well as bubble tea.

The interior is painted a soft blue, with seating including stools along the windows and retro plastic booths that are reminiscent of Taco Bell. The shaved ice is served on a white plate with a slightly out-of-place cafeteria lunch tray and plasticware.

What it lacks in presentation, it certainly delivers on affordability and flavor. In addition, the portion sizes easily lend themselves to sharing.

My coffee flavor with chocolate chips and caramel was everything I hoped it would be. The texture was not what I was expecting, and I have to say it took a couple bites to grow on me.

The ice easily melted in my mouth, leaving behind the creamy flavoring that complimented the crunchiness of the chocolate chips.

Of all the flavors, the caramel was strongest. I would have preferred a stronger presence of flavor in the ice, but I won’t say the coffee wasn’t there.

All in all I’d say it was worth the roughly four dollars I spent on a small. The small, by the way, was a tower almost as long as my hand, so I would recommend bringing someone to help finish anything larger.

I ordered the matcha green tea shaved ice with strawberry drizzle and mochi bites as the topping. It was an interesting texture; it can’t quite be described as fluffy.

The strawberry and matcha flavors went well together, but I wish the matcha had been a bit sweeter (granted, my sweet tooth is a force to be reckoned with so it’s probably the ideal taste for most people).

More of the drizzle would have been nice, too, but for the price, you really can’t complain. Forest helped me get through mine, but it was very light even with how big of a portion you get.

If you’re looking for a quick treat this summer with friends or an inexpensive date spot, Sweet ‘n Snow is highly recommended!
