Homecoming is back and bigger than ever: Student Union Board to host events in the lead up to Homecoming 2020
Campus News February 14, 2020, Comments Off 60As students settle into the new semester, homecoming is just around the corner. Drury’s Student Union Board (SUB) helps students get excited for homecoming with spirit week, filled with themed days and special events. The events all lead up to the homecoming basketball games, where homecoming contestants will be crowned.
The week in detail
SUB has planned a huge lineup of events to get students’ spirits flowing. Kailyn O’Bryan, SUB vice president of homecoming planning is excited about the spirit days the organization has planned.
“We have spirit day each day. This is my personal favorite part of homecoming, especially this year. SUB is having a photo booth area for students in the commons to take pics in their spirit day attire,” explained O’Bryan. “We encourage everyone to post and tag SUB!”
The fun continues on Friday, Feb. 28 at Incredible Pizza, where SUB and Drury Alumni have rented out the entire venue from 9-11 p.m. This event will be open to the first 150 Drury students.
Alongside the spirit of homecoming are the basketball games. Thursday, Feb. 27, homecoming contestants will be announced during the Lady Panthers game at 5:45 p.m. with the men’s game following at 7:45 p.m. Homecoming royalty will be crowned during the women’s game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29 with men’s basketball to follow at 3 p.m. O’Bryan says she is excited about what SUB has planned to accompany the games.
“SUB will have a free Qdoba bar at the games. Qdoba is my favorite so I’m pretty pumped about that,” explained O’Bryan.
Ending the week with a trick up their sleeve
The fun continues after the homecoming coronation. SUB wraps up the week with a very special event.
“After the game, there will be a very cool magician act by Jay Mattioli. He was actually on America’s Got Talent, and from watching some of his work, he’s got a really crazy act that I’m hoping Drury students will love,” said O’Bryan.
Between the week of spirit days and the fun-filled events, SUB has planned for an exciting week of events for all students to get involved in. Whether you just want to catch the game or get a head start on the spirit, this is sure to be a week of fun.
