Join the masquerade: International Student Association brings fall fun for all
Campus News September 27, 2019, Comments Off 310In the spirit of fall, the International Student Association (ISA) will be hosting a masquerade ball Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Historic Firehouse no. 2 off Commercial Street (101 E. Commercial St.) The masquerade will run from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The ISA puts on events throughout the year, like the campus-favorite International Food Festival in the spring. This year for their annual formal, the committee decided to go with a masquerade theme.
Grab a mask and start dancing
The ISA will be providing food and music for students to dance to and have a good time. There will also be a photo booth with a backdrop at the dance for students to take photos and pose with props. Senior Verna Tawfik, President of the International Student Association, said the masquerade theme was an easy choice for the ISA.
“The whole committee decided on masquerade; it works well with decorations and artsy things like doing cookies in the shape of a mask,” said Tawfik. “There’s a lot of planning and decorating that goes into this theme, and all of the officers are excited to create them and work together on it.”
Tawfik continued by saying, “The theme works well with Halloween coming up, that way people can actually get masks and things that will help them get ready for the ball.”
A way to meet new people
Tawfik also wanted to emphasize the masquerade is not just for international students, but that it is open to everyone at Drury.
“It’s a way to make friends, meet the international students and dance with them,” Tawfik said. “We’ll be having music from different countries that you can dance to. It’ll be a fun night.”
Tickets for the dance will be on sale until Friday, Sept. 27 at the commons every day during lunch for $5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as during dinner from 5-7 p.m. There are only a limited number of tickets for the event, so make sure and go and grab yours before it’s too late!
