Drury’s History and Religion & Philosophy clubs to host welcome party
Campus News, Community September 13, 2019, Comments Off 70Drury’s History Club and Religion & Philosophy Club are set to welcome students with a party on Monday, Sept. 16. The clubs are excited to kick the year off as the History, Religion and Philosophy departments are central to Drury’s new Fusion program.
Why it’s important
Dr. Ted Vaggalis, chair of History, Philosophy & Religion Department and advisor to the Religion and Philosophy Club is excited to help students navigate through the Fusion curriculum.
“History and Philosophy and Religion are central to the new Fusion curriculum,” explained Vaggalis. “Students who have questions about Fusion and our courses will find this a valuable event, helping them to know what courses we offer that will provide the best experiences for completing the requirements of the new curriculum.”
Apart from the opportunity to speak with faculty, the Welcome Party is meant to be an enjoyable occasion for students to learn more about the clubs. Quincy Standage, History Club officer is eager for the new possibilities available to students this year.
“My expectations include expanding our member base and increasing awareness for the club,” said Standage. “We are also looking to work more closely with Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honors Society, by possibly co-sponsoring events.”
Come join the fun
The Welcome Party has a lot to offer to students. Dr. Michael Verney, assistant professor of History and advisor to the History Club, explained the basics of the party.
“Students can expect free food, fine conversation, and new friends,” said Dr. Verney.
Aside from the fun at meetings, students in each club can expect to enjoy themselves at several events over the course of the school year. Dr. Verney also spoke to the events expected to happen over the next year.
“Fun and engaging activities this year that will allow students to grow in their peer-to-peer relationships and in their volunteer experience,” explained Verney.
To get involved with the food and fun that goes along with these clubs, students can join. The History and Philosophy and Religion clubs meet twice per month in the Fall and Spring semesters. They also host an annual trip to get off campus and get to know one another better.
The Welcome Party will be hosted at the Rose O’Neill House (1126 N Summit Ave) Monday, Sept.16 from 4-6 p.m. All who are interested are welcome to join the festivities. If students are interested but are unable to make the party date, they can contact the president of the History Club, Delilah Gadd at dgadd002@drury.edu, president of the Religion & Philosophy Club, Seth Fullerton or Dr. Vaggalis at tvaggalis@drury.edu.
