Fun in the sun with Spring Fling
Campus News, Community, News April 12, 2019, Comments Off 73It’s finally spring in Springfield, and the Student Union Board (SUB) has plenty of activities set up to celebrate the season.
SUB is the force behind all the wonderful free things Drury hosts both on and off campus throughout the school year. The events are planned by students, for students.
Events for Spring Fling run on Monday, April 22 and Tuesday, April 23.
Monday events include water inflatables, free Pineapple Whip and free t-shirts. The events will take place on Sunderland field from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday’s event is hosted on the volleyball pit between Wallace and Smith Hall. There will be barbeque and t-shirt tie-dyeing, along with free sunglasses and water bottles. Students also have the chance to duke it out on the volleyball court!
These activities are a great chance to defrost with friends and escape the stress of the end of the semester. The seasonal Fall Fest and Spring Fling are both time-honored traditions that bring our small campus even closer together.
“It gives people a sense of community and fellowship besides the stress of classes, especially in the month of April when everything is due,” junior Jeana Scott stated. “It’s a nice brain break.”
“Fall Fest has been my favorite event so far because it gives me the chance to relax one more time before all the stress kicks in,” second-year Alie Pasternak added. “I’m looking forward to Spring Fling for the same reason.”
“We’ve seen something that is fun and has gotten a lot of attention in the past,” Velona Tawfik said.
Tawfik, a Drury junior, is the vice president of the Fall Fest and Spring Fling celebrations. She joined SUB her freshman year for the chance to plan and create more fun events on Drury’s campus.
Spring Fling is a newer addition than Fall Fest, but one that SUB hopes to see back for many years to come.
The week closes out with another Drury staple: May Ball on Friday, April 26. Students are encouraged to dress their best for a night of dancing, snacks and – if tradition holds true – a mocktail bar. While the theme is still shrouded in mystery, it’s sure to be a blast. Sign-ups are often announced on Twitter, so keep an eye out across social media.
It’s a busy time of year, so don’t forget to step outside and get some sunshine with your Drury friends.
“It will be fun; a lot of free giveaways, food and a good time – so come!” encouraged Tawfik.
