Drury Singers to perform with guest choir
Campus News, News April 5, 2019, Comments Off 133The Drury Singers will perform Sunday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in Drury’s Stone Chapel. The Mid-American Nazarene University (MNU) Choir will also make an appearance. Drury Singers and their director, Dr. Jim Davidson, are excited to perform this concert.
Drury Singers are a special group on campus. They pride themselves on being a diverse group, able to come together collectively.
“Besides the long tradition of excellence, one thing that sets the Drury Singers apart from most other classes on campus, or most other choirs I’ve been affiliated with, is the strong sense of community among the group. We are composed of students from nearly every academic discipline on campus, and yet the group shares a bond and sense of unity that many others are unable to achieve,” said Davidson.
This concert is an opportunity for Drury Singers to practice part of their program before their spring concert on May 2. Dr. Davidson plans to use the performance as a live recording session.
“I expect they will be in top form. They have been working very hard in preparation for this performance on some very difficult music, but I fully expect that they will step up and perform well,” explained Davidson.
Expectations for the concert are high from the director and singers alike. Drury Singer John Gray is excited to be a part of the performance.
“I am proud and honored to be part of Drury Singers. We are able to bring so many people to different emotions with what we sing. We tell stories in a unique way that differs from other forms of entertainment and storytelling,” said Gray.
The addition of the MNU Choir will give the audience a chance to hear two different of choirs, singing a variety of choral music.
“It is a collegiate collaboration. The audience will notice two very different approaches to a collegiate choir. Choral music is an art, and there is more than one ‘right’ way to go about it. It is an opportunity for the audience to experience two very good, but very different choirs in one sitting,” said Davidson.
Dr. Davidson is excited to collaborate with the MNU director, Dr. Christopher Smith, to put on this concert. The collaborative concert will take place in Stone Chapel and is free to the public.
