Your Drury Fusion: more like Your Drury Mystery. Many Drury students have questions about this new program. While there are many resources to discover more about this innovative academic program, as well as events like Fusion Frenzy, some students are still unclear about what it means to earn certificates under the new curriculum.

Your Drury Fusion offers 16 certificates, and each requires students to complete four to five classes. The certificates are separated into two categories: life and profession. By getting certificates in both categories, Drury promises a well-rounded education while introducing new courses.

Life Certificates

Ancients Alive: The Classics in Context

By getting certified in this field, students will combine the ideas of modern philosophers with that of ancient civilizations, while comparing the politics of each. It’s truly a certificate for any student, and includes these four classes: Ancient Civilizations, Comparative Mythology, Classical Philosopher, and capstone Ancients Alive: The Classics and Culture.

Ethical Leadership

Students interested in religion and philosophy would do well to get certified in Ethical Leadership, as it expands on the role of morals and ethics in history and literature. To get this certificate, one must take Asian Ethics, Literature and Ethics, Christian Ethics, and the Fusion capstone Seminar in Professional Ethics.

Food, Culture and Society

This certificate allows students to look at the consequences of the food industry on society as a whole, as well as the ethics of the average human diet. Required classes are Animal Ethics; Food, Culture and Identity; Global Social Problems; and capstone The Politics of Food.

Get Out. Plug In: Intercultural Connections

This certificate certainly has a lot of flexibility, as it requires students to study abroad. While abroad, students are able to research any topic that pertains to their career choice. Classes include foreign language credits at both the 102 and 201 levels; Introduction to International Diversity and Culture; OPI Test in Foreign Language; and Intercultural Communication project, which is taken abroad.

Graphic Storytelling

Perfect for students interested in art, animation, graphic design, or even architecture, this certificate brings literature and art together. For this certificate, you need to take Drawing I, Literature Matters: History and Theory of Graphic Storytelling, Graphic Design I, and capstone Small Press Publishing.

Holistic Health and Well-Being

Students looking to enlighten themselves and others while understanding the connections between mindfulness and health will excel with this certificate. Classes include Pathogens, Plagues, and Human Progress; Holistic Health Practices; Sociology of Health, Illness and Health Care; and the capstone class Health Behavior Interventions.

International Immersion

This certificate allows students to complete all required coursework in a different country. Students will need six credit hours of Understanding Place, as well as Interdisciplinary Contexts and a capstone Place-Based Project.

Life in Close-up: Film, History, and Society

This certificate is dedicated to exploring how film influences society. Perfect for history and art majors alike, required classes are History of Film; Joan of Arc: Film and History; China: Film and History; and Music, Film and Politics.

Different is the New Normal: Celebrating Neurodiversity

This fascinating certificate allows students to explore into common abnormalities in the human brain, such as dyslexia and anxiety, while celebrating how we each think differently. Classes include Positive Psychology; Neurodiversity in Society and Why It Matters; Challenging Normality; and the capstone Neurodiversity Project.

Profession Certificates

Data Analytics: Big Problems, Big Data Solutions

Analyzing data is a huge part of any career field from entrepreneurship to research scientists, so this certificate will complement any Drury student’s goals. Students will need to take Introduction to Data Analytics; Data Analytics Applications; Introduction to Data Visualization; and the capstone Big Data Project.

Designing Solutions for Environmental Problems

As the devastating effects of climate change loom over the human race, it’s important for students to understand what has led to this and how we can fix it. This certificate requires Science of the Environment; Introduction to Environmental Economics; Environmental Ethics, and the capstone Issues in Environmental Biology.

Interactive Design

In this certificate, students can hone their skills in computer programming while combining their passion for art and web development. Required classes are Interactive Design and Aesthetic; Fundamentals of Programming; Human Computer Interface Design and Technology; and capstone Applied Projects.

Learning to Lead and Leading to Learn: Facilitating Learning in the Professional Setting

A great choice for education majors or any student pursuing a leadership position, students working for this certificate will take classes such as Fundamentals of Adult Learning Theory; Organizational Behavior; Presentational Speaking; and the capstone class Professional Training Skills in Action.

Professional and Visual Communication

Communication is a big part of any career, which is why this certificate is a good match for any student. With versatile classes that include Graphic Design I; Presentational Speaking; Integrated Brand Management; and Professional and Visual Communication, students will learn professional communication skills.

Sports Leadership: Going Beyond the Game

A certificate in sports leadership will immerse students in the dynamics of coach-player relationships, and prepare Drury students for any career in the sports world. Classes include Sports Communication, Communication and Ethics, Sociology of Sport, and a capstone Sports Leadership Internship.

Justice Denied: Wrongful Convictions

This fascinating certificate will allow students to learn about the ins and outs of the justice system and explore actual examples of wrongful convictions. An exciting certificate for sociology, criminology, or pre-law students, classes include Introduction to Criminology; Free Will and Responsibility; Constitutional Criminal Law and Procedure; and capstone Cases of Innocence in the Criminal Justice System.

With certificates that relate to every kind of student, this new academic program is an innovative replacement for standard CORE classes. Students are able to mix and match certificates that suit their interests and their future goals.
