St. Patrick’s Day has passed but Drury students still have a bit more green in their future. From March 25 to March 29, Kappa Delta will be hosting their annual Shamrock Week. Shamrock Week is a nationwide Kappa Delta tradition in support of Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA). Each chapter celebrates a little differently; here at Drury the KD’s have five themed events lined up.

Motivational Monday

On Monday, students can find motivational confidence quotes around campus. Kappa Deltas take confidence seriously and in 2009 created the Confidence Coalition to encourage men and women to embrace their uniqueness. Sophomore Haley Mueller, KD’s vice president of community service, is tasked with orchestrating Shamrock Week. She shares her opinion on the first event of the week.

“Personally, my favorite part is the Motivation Monday events where we put little shamrocks up all over campus and spread confidence!” she said.

Dine Out Tuesday

On Tuesday, KD is hosting a dine out at Chipotle where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to their philanthropy. Drury students are encouraged to attend and mention Kappa Delta at the register to help the cause.

Windy Wednesday

On Wednesday, Kappa Delta’s will have pinwheels for students to plant in support of PCAA.

Thoughtful Thursday

On Thursday, Drury students are encouraged to wear green to support KD’s local philanthropy, Isabel’s House.

Mac & Cheese with the KD’s

On Friday the week culminates with a new twist on Drury Shamrock week. In the past, Kappa Delta has celebrated with a spaghetti dinner. This year, the event is serving catered mac & cheese. This event costs $7 to attend and proceeds benefit Isabel’s House and PCAA.

“I’ve personally tried the Mac & Cheese already and it’s DELICIOUS! Trust me. I’m a mac & cheese connoisseur,” Mueller shared.

Shamrock Week centers around Kappa Delta’s philanthropy PCAA. While the events of the week try to raise money for the cause, it is also for awareness. Sophomore Rorry White is Mueller’s assistant in Kappa Delta. She has been crucial in the planning process for Shamrock Week and has a connection with PCAA.

“I think for many KDs and myself personally, the event means a lot because child abuse is something that affects so many people around us and often times slips by unnoticed. If I can do my part in prevention against something so terrible of course I’m going to do it,” White said.

Shamrock Week is focused on a noble cause and Drury Kappa Delta needs student participation to make it a success. Not just to raise money for PCAA and Isabel’s House, but also to show support for fellow Drury students.

“I think what would really make Shamrock Week successful to me and KD as a whole is just participation and support from our peers. Seeing other Drury students, whether they be friends, classmates or other members of Greek life, participating in some of our Shamrock events would really, I think, set the tone for encouragement and involvement on campus,” White said.

Students can participate by following the events of the week and buying a ticket to Friday’s mac & cheese event. Tickets will be sold during Shamrock Week in the Commons and the night of the event at the door. KD will also have a hashtag and Snapchat filter coming soon.

Drury students will find that it is easy to get involved in whatever capacity they are able. With simple events, Chipotle fundraising and mac & cheese, Drury can help support Kappa Delta and PCAA.
