Fusion Frenzy: Understanding your future

Fusion Frenzy: Understanding your future

Now, unless you haven’t left your dorm all semester, I’m sure you’ve heard of Your Drury Fusion. In case you haven’t, it’s the new undergraduate program being rolled out in the 2019 fall semester. But while you may have heard bits and pieces of what the program entails, you may still have questions and concerns about what it’s really about.

This is why Drury’s Student Government Association (SGA) and several members of the administration want to invite you to Fusion Frenzy. This event will inform current students, particularly freshmen and sophomores, about their options concerning Your Drury Fusion. It will take place on Wednesday, March 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.

Fusion Frenzy is gearing up to be an interactive event. There won’t just be a single speaker lecturing or even a panel of professors. Rather, they plan to have several stations where students can speak with faculty and advisers to better evaluate their options.

The event will also debut the 12 new certificates Your Drury Fusion is offering. In addition to the advice, there will be food, games, giveaways and more.

This event was the brain child of Lexie Gutierrez, SGA president. She brought the idea to the administration on behalf of SGA.

“Since then, it has been coordinated by myself, Dean Julian, Dr. Harville, Mr. David Hinson, and the entire marketing team,” she said.

Gutierrez recommends students attend the event because it’s the first real event concerning Fusion that is open to students.

Despite being a junior and unable to switch to the program, Gutierrez is excited about the future of Your Drury Fusion. She sees Fusion as “an incredible opportunity for students” that offers them not only a well-rounded education, but also “more opportunities for personal and professional growth.”

However, Gutierrez understands that the program is not for everyone.

“Look at both options closely before deciding whether or not you want to switch from CORE to Your Drury Fusion,” she advises. “I think it’s really important to understand how it will affect your academic experience.”

Understanding both curricula and their requirements will help you decide what the future of your education at Drury will be like, and that is the true purpose of Fusion Frenzy.
