Green is an animation major with a writing minor from Peculiar, Mo. She is a member of the women’s track and field team. Over the  weekend of Feb. 23 at the GLVC indoor track and field championships, Green set a program record in the 60-meter dash and qualified for finals in the 200-meter dash. On campus, she is also a dedicated member of BUIC and Diversity Scholars.

Green was surprised to be awarded the scholarship.

“I was completely unaware that I ended up getting the scholarship until the middle of last week when Ms. Rosalyn Thomas called me into her office and was like ‘Hey, by the way Turning Point is giving away a scholarship and you’ve been awarded one.’ I just thought that was incredible,” said Green. “For one, I did not have to apply or do anything, so it’s just nice seeing people acknowledging some of the stuff that I’ve done and that they thought enough of me to give it to me.”

Solutions Roofing will provide four Springfield students with scholarships this year. The awarded students did not have to apply or write an essay to be considered for the scholarship. The only requirement is that the students have to attend two- to four-year institutions of higher education.

“As a company we’re ready to give back to the community, and there is some youth within our church that we’re willing to sponsor and help out. We’re all about children and their future. We wanted to go the extra mile for that and we’re a newer company, so we figured we would start within our own church and strengthen that before we got more outreach,” said Daniel Hilton, owner of Solutions Roofing.

Green expressed her gratitude for the award.

“I think for the most part I was just in shock that it happened, but I’m really grateful for it and really grateful for the opportunity,” she said.

This scholarship will help Green complete her remaining semesters at Drury.

Ashanti Tate, wife of the pastor of Turning Point Church, stated, “Solutions Roofing is wanting to encourage all of our college students to obtain their goals and continue to pursue their dreams.”

After graduation, Green plans to become a storyboard artist, focusing on pre-production animation.
