LCA hosts second annual trivia night
Campus News March 1, 2019, Comments Off 68Nothing says college quite like free food, laughing with friends and the chance to show off all the weird knowledge you’ve picked up from your classes – and on March 5, the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha are providing all three.
The event runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the FSC Ballroom. Six to eight people may join as a team, with registration costing $60 for the full group. All organizations are welcome, as are groups of friends just looking for a fun and beneficial way to spend a Tuesday evening!
Paul Parrish is a sophomore at Drury University and the man behind this year’s trivia night.
“We try to reach out a lot! The sororities are very supportive, but we want to reach all groups. Even if you aren’t in an organization!” Parrish encouraged.
Last year, the Zeta Tau Alpha girls took home the trivia champion title.
“The Zeta team… they may have had a couple teams actually, they had it stacked,” Parrish laughed. “We had about 10 groups total last year.”
Reaching out to the community
This is only the second year that LCA is hosting the event, but they hope it lasts for many to come. All proceeds from the event go to Ozarks Food Harvest, the fraternity’s local philanthropy.
LCA has supported the Food Harvest for many years and joins other chapters nationwide for the North American Food Drive, which according to the Ozarks Food Harvest page, is one of the world’s largest single-day fraternity philanthropy events. The drive is part of the Feeding America organization.
There are more than 100,000 people in the Ozarks living in poverty with at least 50,000 children included in that number, as reported by Ozarks Food Harvest. Supporting food drives through the organization aids an issue very close to home for many people in Springfield.
Food and friends
“We’re still figuring out exactly which ones we want to pick for it,” Parrish said when asked about the full expanse of categories. Topics can range from pop culture to general knowledge and everything in between.
One possible category? Matching baby pictures of Lambda Chi members to how they look today.
“We’ll probably have the brothers line up at the front so people will have some reference,” Parrish said.
Trivia nights are a popular fundraiser for many groups on campus, and all seem to pull a strong turnout. Parrish believes it is more than showing off one’s intellectual muscles.
“Everyone enjoys being able to hang out with people they know, socialize, laughing and eating – everyone likes doing that,” Parrish said.
Food is catered for the event as well.
Even if you don’t take home the crown, trivia is a wonderful social opportunity to connect with fresh faces around campus.
“Meet new groups, meet new people and test our knowledge as a Drury community,” Parrish emphasized.
Don’t miss the posters around campus and slides on DormTV advertising the event as well. Clear your Tuesday and pull together some friends for a great night off and the chance to benefit a local cause!
