Drury to host the eighth annual Overflow The O’
Weekend February 8, 2019, Comments Off 65On Feb. 9, Drury basketball teams are set to rival against University of Missouri- St. Louis (UMSL). It all begins with Lady Panthers at 1 p.m. followed by the Panthers at 3 p.m.
An event for the whole family
The event is known to be a fun experience for all. Students can expect a lively atmosphere. The event often attracts a wide variety of spectators, from students to family and friends of Drury.
“Overflow The O’ has one of the best game atmospheres of the season. It allows for the boosters, who come to every game, students who want to cheer their friends on, and new visitors of Drury to be at the same game at once,” said Drury Cheerleader, Kenzie Gagne. “I think that it really heightens the feeling of pride and excitement for the sport. It’s loud and crazy, but it’s a great atmosphere!”
Overflow The O’ is a chance for students to come out and support Drury basketball as well as the cheerleaders and dance team.
“It’s exciting and such a thrill. It’s perfect for the college student who loves their school and loves a good time,” said Gagne.
Show your Drury spirit
The event is a great opportunity for students to show school spirit to the community and players. Drury Lady Panthers are ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation in the WBCA/NCAA-II coaches’ poll. Men’s basketball has had a more challenging season thus far.
“It has been a season of ups and downs so far. Nine of 10 losses have been by a combined 21 points, so there has been a lot of heartbreak,” said Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Brandon Kimbrough. “I have to give the players credit because they have not given up during the tough times and are starting to play like the team that I think everyone thought we could be.”
Kimbrough is very optimistic about the men’s season. Overflow The O’ will be a fun opportunity for fans to show their support.
“The best day ever”
“A Drury game is never something that you want to miss out on,” said Drury student, Grace Hayter, who plans on attending the event. “The experience is how you make it. It could be the best day ever for Drury students. For me, I love when everyone is there having a good time.”
Apart from basketball, the Drury dance team will be performing as well as the cheerleaders.
“As a cheerleader, this game is one of the best environments to cheer in during the season. It may be loud and wild, but we wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Gagne. “We just get excited when Drury comes together and gets just as excited as we do for our basketball teams and this special game.”
Overflow The O’ is expected to draw a lively crowd. Tickets can be purchased at the O’Reilly Family Event Center box office.
