SUB After Dark events for September

The Student Union Board (SUB) is a organization on Drury University’s campus that provides students with opportunities for bonding and community building both on and off campus. This year, SUB elected a second vice president to help them organize even better events for students.

The vice presidents this year are sophomore Afton Jagels and senior Brayden Jones. Their job is to ensure that the events are as satisfying to attend as they are to plan. As part of reaching that goal, they try to offer students fun ways of meeting and engaging with each other.

SUB After Dark

SUB hosts several events called “After Darks” for Drury students each month. In the past, SUB has hosted around four events a month. This semester, however, they decided to reduce the number to two events. According to Jagels, this is to “do bigger things, which will hopefully draw in more people.”

With that in mind, the events for the month of September are as follows:

Mini golf at Fun Acre

On Sept. 14, SUB will host free mini golf at Fun Acre from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This is the first event of the new school year, so it’s an icebreaker for new students.

“We’re more or less looking to get students away from campus for a bit, just to see one of the many attractions Springfield has. Students work hard, we want to give them a fun place to go on a weekend to reward them and help them establish what we hope to be strong friendships,” said Jones.

SUB will cover the cost of a round of golf for any Drury student who arrives to the event with their ID. Fun Acre is located on 214 W Glenwood St.

Pottery in the FSC

On Sept. 27, SUB will host a pottery activity in the ballroom of the  Findlay Student Center. This has become a somewhat annual SUB event, and a student favorite according to Jones.

The items available are limited, so the event works on a first-come-first-serve basis.

“[Interested] Students… wanna get here early,” said Jones.

If any clubs are interested in partnering with SUB to host an After Dark, please contact Afton Jagels at (913) 927-8754 or ajagels@drury.edu.
