Drury University to host Study Abroad Fair
Campus News, News September 7, 2018, Comments Off 77If you have ever dreamed of traveling the world while continuing your studies, then come visit the Study Abroad Fair on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the upper lobby of the Finley Student Center.
Dr. Patrick Moser from the Department of Languages and Literature has traveled to many destinations with students through the programs Drury has to offer. He explained what students should expect and why they should attend the fair.
Trips, Trips and More Trips!
“The Study Abroad Fair gives Drury students a chance to see all of the trips being offered in the coming academic year and to meet the faculty who will be leading the trips,” he stated. “Study abroad can be one of the most exciting and unforgettable experiences a student can have as an undergraduate. There’s no better way to understand our place in the world today than to live and learn in another culture.”
The fair will also have information regarding future semester-long programs. There are a variety of programs offered at Drury, including 11 short-term study abroad programs occurring next summer, like the one Dr. Moser is leading.
“I’m directing a two-week study abroad trip in summer, 2019 called Writing in Paris,” said Moser. “It’s the first time we’re offering this program, and I’m really excited to share everything Paris has to offer with students. I am also co-directing a second trip that summer with Dr. Cathy Blunk for students who want to study French language and culture in Tours, France.”
Wherever you would like to visit or whatever major you declare, there is a place for everyone. Drury University’s website even mentions how for business and architecture students, studying abroad is required for their degree. A study abroad program is also a great way to earn an engaged learning credit that is needed to for Drury’s Core curriculum.
The Opportunity of a Lifetime
“About six out of every ten students at Drury participate in a study abroad program. They earn credit toward graduation, make life-long memories and return with powerful experiences that enrich their lives and careers. The Study Abroad Fair is the first step on that journey,” said Moser.
“If I had one piece of advice for a student about their undergraduate education, I would say study abroad! It’s okay to be nervous about traveling to another country. Every new experience comes with some jitters. That’s how you know it’s worth doing,” said Moser.
Exploring and learning more about yourself and the world while being able to maintain your school work is such a rare and exciting opportunity for students to have, so don’t miss your chance. Having some hesitation is normal, so feel free to reach out for any information.
