Meet the next Editor in Chief: Taylor Stanton
Editorial April 27, 2018, Comments Off 120When I started at The Mirror, I had no idea where my position as a staff writer would lead me. I’ve had the pleasure of learning about the various passions, events and organizations that drive Drury’s students and faculty. Through The Mirror, I’ve connected with people across campus who I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I’ve gotten experience not only as a writer but also as a copy editor. I’m excited to announce the next step in my Mirror career. Come August, I will be the editor-in-chief.
I should introduce myself. I’m Taylor. I am an English and Writing double major with a Communications minor.
What else do you want to know? I love lemon bars from Tea Bar and Bites, daffodils and John Mayer lyrics. My planner has at least three sticky notes on it at all times. I do not have a green thumb, but that doesn’t stop me from buying houseplants for my small apartment. I’m clumsy; I have a recurring nightmare about falling down the stairs of Pearsons. Every day, I hope that this does not become a reality.
My personal goals for this year are to listen more, write more and waste less plastic.
My work for The Mirror has pushed me to step out of my comfort zone in the best way possible. It has given me an outlet to write about organizations, events and topics that suit my passions and interests. I am more confident in my writing and in myself because of my experiences as a member of The Mirror’s staff. I know that the role of editor-in-chief will be an opportunity for me to grow as a writer, thinker and leader.
While I am excited for next semester, I admit that I am nervous, too. However, I am inspired by our staff. We encourage each other to publish the best versions of our work, and we support each other even when we make mistakes. I couldn’t ask for a better group of motivated people to work with in the fall. In their hands, I know that The Mirror will remain an influential presence on campus.
I want to wish the best of luck to our current editor-in-chief, Danielle Wheelan, as she graduates and begins the next stage of her life. She challenged our staff to bring our A game to each issue. Her hard work, straightforward attitude and passion for the paper has made The Mirror what it is today.
I appreciate how much work Danielle has put in behind the scenes to make our newspaper better than it was before. Danielle has made a mark on our paper and our staff. When I think about all of the heart she has put into her job as editor-in-chief, I realize that I have big shoes to fill.
Danielle, I know that you will bring your all to whatever you do. Thank you for your guidance. Thank you for having faith in me.
I am thrilled to be the next editor-in-chief. I’ll see you back on campus in August. Look out for our first issue of the 2018-19 school year.
