Drury Student Union Board to host fourth annual May Ball: It’s going to be out of this world!
Campus News, Weekend April 13, 2018, Comments Off 166Finals week is quickly approaching, and what better way to celebrate the end of the year than to hit the dance floor? On Friday, April 27, 2018, Drury’s Student Union Board in partnership with Panthers for Prevention and the Student Affairs staff will host their fourth annual May Ball.
The Student Union Board teamed up with Panthers for Prevention to help make sure students have a fun and safe experience at this on-campus event. According to their Facebook page, Panthers for Prevention is “a coalition of Drury students, staff and faculty who promote healthy choices, with an emphasis on safe relationships and safe alcohol use.”
Bayless Thompson, the Vice President of Special Events on the Student Union Board, said “May Ball is Drury’s annual semi-formal dance open to all undergraduate students. This event started my freshman year, so this is the fourth annual celebration of it.”
Thompson explained the concept behind the first May Ball.
“We started with the idea of an end-of-year celebration open to all of Drury,” said Thompson. “At the time, there was a large population of non-Greek students that wanted to have their own formal, so May Ball was born. It continues to be a free, semi-formal, themed dance open to Drury students and their pre-approved guests.”
Still not interested? Thompson said, “A lot of people have called it ‘the best night to be a Drury student.’ We’ll have food, dancing, a DJ, a cash bar and other fun surprises to come!”
There will also be a complimentary photo booth at the event, as well as mocktails for students who are not 21 or older.
This year’s theme is “Fly Me to the Moon: It’s Going to be Out of This World.” Thompson described the theme as “a jazzy take on space.”
She said, “Think saxophones on the moon.”
Freshman Camille Hall is excited to attend her first May Ball.
“I am looking forward to a fun night with my friends and getting an opportunity to spend time with people I don’t usually hang out with,” said Hall. “One of my friends invited me, and I cannot wait to see what the dance has to offer.”
May Ball starts at 9 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m. It will be held in the ballroom of the Findlay Student Center. Students must check in first before being allowed into the event.
Do you want to attend the dance? Students can go to the “4th Annual May Ball” event page on Facebook to sign up or go to https://goo.gl/forms/tOIqWHgYMg2TCGpm1. The dance is free, but students must pre-register to attend. The first 400 students registered will be allowed to attend. Only the first 50 people who register a non-student date will be allowed to attend. Students can message Drury May Ball on Facebook with any questions.
It’s time to start practicing your moves; we’ll see you on the dance floor.
