Campus News, News March 2, 2018, Comments Off 148Are you tired of hitting the high notes in your tiny shower? Do you think your talent goes beyond just singing along to the car radio? If so, get your singing-voices ready and pick out your favorite song because you could be a contestant on Drury Idol. Head over to the Drury C-Street Gallery on Friday, March 23 at 6 p.m. to potentially boost your way to stardom.
Drury C- Street Gallery is presenting their very own singing contest in support of the exhibit “Synesthesia of Song.” Drury Idol is the college version of the classic TV show American Idol. The event will be hosted in front of a live audience, and performances will be graded and critiqued by 3 judges. A prize will be given to the overall winner of the event.
Annie Parzygnat, one of the show’s coordinators and creators, has been dreaming of the day to finally open a music venue for people to showcase their singing abilities. At Drury Idol, her dream begins.
“I want to be able to give the Springfield community a fun night by providing a friendly competition, and be able to show off the talented staff and students we have here at Drury,” said Parzygnat.
Parzygnat is throwing this event to bring the city of Springfield together to have an enjoyable evening while bonding over music.
“I think [Drury students] should attend because we have a lot of talented musicians here at Drury and music is a way to bring people together to have a good time,” said Parzygnat. “Why not enjoy a Friday night out, watch people sing and create something beautiful? Hey, they might just find their new favorite artists.”
To take part and compete, contestants must be either Drury students or staff members. Contestants must perform a solo but are encouraged to bring a musical instrument to assist in the audition. Students will have 60 to 90 seconds to impress the judges on performance, memorization and vocals.
The winner of the event will be taking home a brand new ukulele. Certificates will be handed out to the winner and the runner-ups as well.
The deadline to sign up to compete is March 12. There is a sign-up sheet located in Clara Thompson Hall for all that are interested. Drury Idol is only accepting the first thirty applicants so spots are limited. All majors are welcomed to sign up, and show the judges and audience what they got.
To top it all off, the show is entirely free. There is no fee to sign up and no tickets to buy. Anyone can attend and is encouraged to come see the show.
