Kappa Delta raises money for philanthropy during annual Shamrock Week
Uncategorized February 24, 2018, Comments Off 1043The Kappa Delta sorority at Drury University is gearing up for Shamrock Week – an annual weeklong event that benefits both local and national philanthropies and inspires confidence in women. All Drury students are encouraged to participate in Shamrock Week events, which spans from February 26 to March 2, 2018.
The week kicks off with Motivation Monday. Look out for confidence quotes around campus, and use this day to motivate and uplift the people around you.
Treat Yourself Tuesday encourages Drury students to treat themselves to some Chick-Fil-A! From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., a percentage of the proceeds will go to Isabel’s House and Prevent Child Abuse America if you mention Kappa Delta before ordering.
Wear Green Wednesday is self-explanatory: wear green to support and acknowledge Shamrock Week.
On Thank You Thursday, all students can write thank-you cards for the workers and volunteers at Isabel’s House. An appreciation station will be set up outside the Commons on this day.
Finally, the week ends with Spaghetti Fiesta Friday. Enjoy some spaghetti with Kappa Delta, and help out less fortunate children at the same time. Tickets are $5 in advance, and $7 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased from any Kappa Delta sister. All proceeds will go to Isabel’s House and Prevent Child Abuse America.
Freshman KD sister Noelle Souter sheds light on the sorority’s philanthropies.
“Isabel’s House provides living space for families in crisis. Families come to Isabel’s House when they fear for the safety and well-being of their children when going through a hard time or situation,” she explained. “Prevent Child Abuse America was founded by our Kappa Delta sister Donna Stone in 1981. As of today, Kappa Delta has raised $23 million dollars to help prevent child abuse in America.”
While the philanthropies are the focus of Shamrock Week, it also encourages Kappa Delta sisters to look within themselves for confidence, and inspire others to do the same.
“Promoting confidence is a big part of Kappa Delta. Our sorority formed the Confidence Coalition to address the many issues that weaken the confidence in girls and women. This movement encourages females to embrace their uniqueness and to help boost the self-esteem of other girls. Kappa Delta strives to help women build confidence in themselves as well as others,” said Souter.
Kappa Delta was founded at Drury in 1931. Since then, they have grown to be a successful chapter that is well-liked by its members. It is one of 164 collegiate chapters nationwide.
Though Souter is only a freshman, but she has found her home in Kappa Delta.
“What I love most about Kappa Delta is the unconditional support of all of my sisters. I know that they’ve always got my back, and I’ve got theirs. When you join Kappa Delta sorority, you gain best friends and sisters for life!” she exclaimed.
Be sure to mark your calendars, and celebrate Shamrock Week from February 26 to March 2.
Empower others and support local and national causes with Kappa Delta!
