What’s better than seeing your favorite Drury peer get dunked in a dunk tank?

What if you could do this while also raising money for a great cause?

On Saturday, Oct. 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the Kellogg Green Space, Kappa Delta is sponsoring their third annual “Dunk a KD” fundraiser event, where you can do both of those things.

How to help

In the week prior to the event, students and faculty are invited to drop their loose change in one of the donation jars located outside of the commons during lunch hours for a “Penny War” in which people use their spare change to vote for who they would most like to see get dunked. At the end of the week, the students or faculty members with the most money in their jars will be the lucky contestants to be dunked at the event on Saturday.

In addition to participating in the Penny War, students can buy tickets to the “Dunk a KD” from the Kappa Deltas, which can be paid for with cash or card. The cost is $5 for admission and includes three throws at the dunk tank. Students can choose to buy additional throws at the event. There will also be concessions, yard games and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Southwest Humane Society of Missouri. Kappa Delta has set a fundraising goal of $1,500 dollars for the event.

Remembering a sister

“Dunk a KD” is an event held in honor of late Kappa Delta member, Taylor Mazurek.

“On Oct 15, 2014, Taylor Mae Mazurek passed away unexpectedly, leaving a hole in the heart of Drury University,” said Savannah McCauley, Kappa Delta’s Vice President of Community Service.

“Taylor was a third-year Dean’s List student, majoring in psychology with minors in biology and communications,” McCauley continued. “The members of Alpha Psi will never be able to replace the abundance of love and acceptance Taylor brought to our sisterhood, however, we vow to always remember and cherish it.”

Taylor was especially fond of dogs and baseball, which was the inspiration for the dunk tank and raising money for the Humane Society.

“Taylor was a light. In the darkest of days, she was there to shine grace and love upon whoever needed it,” said McCauley. “In her honor, we are hosting ‘Dunk a KD’, combining her love of baseball and helping animals.”

The event of the year

Largely due to the powerful meaning behind the event, “Dunk a KD” is an event that Kappa Delta looks forward to all year.

Mariah Skelley, assistant to McCauley, says that she is “most excited about seeing all of the dogs!” McCauley said she is “most excited about seeing everyone who comes out to the event.”

Be sure to collect your extra change and bring it with you to lunch for a chance to see the person of your choice submerged in a giant tank of water. Also, don’t forget to buy a ticket and come out this Saturday from 1-3 to show support for this awesome event and meaningful cause.
