There are only three weekends between now and Halloween, so it is definitely time to embrace the holiday. This Friday is the scariest day in all of October: Friday the 13th! That makes it a perfect night to get spooked at the Drury Music Alliance’s annual carnival and haunted house.

Sophomore DMA secretary Genevieve Travers is excited to be a member of an organization that is hosting a community-wide event.

“I found really good friends within the club and we get to do all these activities throughout the year. The fall carnival is my favorite event,” said Travers.

Several on-campus organizations will be setting up booths outside of Clara Thompson Hall as part of the carnival. Organizations such as Mu Theta and the Gender Intersectionality Collective will be there. There will be games and prizes at many of the booths.

Travers was tasked with helping arrange the groups in attendance. “[The booths] can be Halloween-themed and used as a recruitment process for their clubs,” said Travers.

Many people are excited to see how Clara Thompson will be transformed into a haunted house. DMA has organized this event for the past two years, and in years prior, anime club was in charge. Every year, they choose a haunted theme to work with.

“Last year someone dressed in a bloody wedding dress as the ghost of Clara Thompson,” said Travers.

Scare actors will be placed throughout Clara. Some of the actors are from Drury’s theatre department.

This event will be open to Drury students, faculty and staff, as well as the greater Springfield community. The prices for the haunted house are $3 for students, $2 for kids and $5 for adults.

Come to Clara Thompson on Friday, Oct. 13 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the carnival and haunted house! (In case of rain, the booths will move inside Clara Thompson to the jazz rooms.)
