KDs celebrate International Women’s Friendship Month
Community, Lifestyle September 29, 2017, Comments Off 68International Women’s Friendship Month occurs every September and was created in 2009 by Kappa Delta sorority. Throughout the entire month, Kappa Delta chapters across the nation host a variety of events to unify women and create confidence in others.
The International Women’s Friendship Month falls under Kappa Delta’s Confidence Coalition, a platform committed to giving women and girls experiences and opportunities that challenge them to become their most confident selves.
The Confidence Coalition website reports, “Ninety-percent of all women want to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance.”
The Alpha Psi chapter of Kappa Delta held a few different events for both Greek and non-Greek women to participate in, meant to prevent that percentage from rising.
Sisters of the chapter feel a close connection with the values behind International Women’s Friendship Month.
“International Women’s Friendship Month is one of my favorite things that we do,” junior Barbie Causley said. “There’s something so empowering about having the opportunity to instill confidence in women across campus.”
“Strong friendships can be really powerful so I think it’s cool to have a whole month to celebrate them,” Causley said.
On Sept. 16 the ladies of Kappa Delta hosted an open yoga session on the Kellogg Greenspace.
On Sept. 22 the chapter passed out donuts in front of Olin Library. This small act of kindness was done to help brighten Drury students’ Friday morning.
They also hosted a self-defense training course on Sept. 23.
